Message From Gao Yan Ping
Consul General of the Consulate General of the P. R. China in Houston

Dear Friends,

On September 26, 2009, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Houston, in association with the local Chinese Community, is presenting a statue of Confucius as a gift to the City of Houston. The statue, which was crafted by the renowned sculptor Willy Wang, is seated in the International Sculpture Garden of the Hermann Park.

Confucius, the worldwide known ancient Chinese educator and thinker, has deeply influenced numerous people through his teachings and philosophy for over two thousand years. The idea of putting a Confucius Statue in the Hermann Park was initiated by a group of Chinese Community leaders, who have dedicated themselves to promoting China-US friendship and cultural understanding between local communities, and raised funds for this project.

The year of 2009 marks the 2560th anniversary of Confucius's Birth and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. I truly believe that the statue of Great Confucius will serve as a symbol of friendship between the Chinese and American people, and help enrich cultural diversity of the City of Houston.

Wish you all best luck.

Sincerely yours,

Gao Yan Ping
Consul General
